Student

Class of 2020

One moment that’s had a lasting impact on me to this day is the first time I met Dr. Naomi Saslaw. I met her in the Eagles Nest about a month into freshman year. I have a fascination with the history of this institution. I had studied in-depth the pictures on the walls of the student center. Dr. Saslaw has been here for 50 years (46 years at the time I met her). I wanted to meet her and get a chance to talk with her about her experiences throughout her tenure. We had a two and a half hour conversation that night. We discovered through conversation a mutual love of music, as well, which has since been a thread throughout our many conversations. From that first conversation, we have developed a great relationship and she has become my number one mentor and life coach. I have had her for two classes and will have had her for three by the time I graduate. She is someone I have gone to regularly for advice over my five years at AU. I could not be more grateful to have such a wonderful mentor professor and friend. One moment that I think best represents our relationship is when I was a freshman and I ran into her in the Eagles Nest about a month after we had meant.. She asked me if I wanted to chat for a few minutes. I said absolutely. A few minutes turned into four hours and when I was walking her to her car around midnight I told her I would love to have more of these “few minute” conversations. We both laughed. I will always treasure the wisdom she has given me and the many conversations we have had.
