When I was a freshman living in Clayton Hall, they occasionally rented out Redwood Hall for events like weddings. One Saturday night, we were noticing all of the folks headed to a wedding and someone said it sure would be nice to be able to go. I said, “We can if we want. All we have to do is get dressed up and head over.” My theory was that half the folks would be on the bride’s side of the family and that they’d simply believe I was a guest of the groom’s (and vice versa). I had quite a good time. I even danced the traditional “dollar” dance. But, what I hadn’t figured on, was that my private saxophone instructor Curt Wilson’s band was playing for the reception. When our eyes met he chuckled under his breath and gave me a look that said, “I hear nothing, I see nothing.” Later, of course I became a member of his band and was “invited” to many more festivities!
