The moments that changed my life at Ashland were the ones where lifelong friendships were built or strengthened. We still go to Florida every year to see some of those friends. The whole reason I ended up at Ashland, in fact, was because I met Fred Finks at church camp when we were nine. He was from Virginia and I was from Maryland and we came to Ashland together. One of my fondest memories was when the seminary was just getting started. To get accredited, they had to have a certain number of books in their library. Well, they didn’t have nearly enough books. So, they found a guy in Newark, New Jersey who wanted to donate his entire library. In those days, the college only had one car. So Fred and I hitched a trailer to it, hopped in, and drove to Newark. It took us a couple days to load everything up, but when we finally got back, the seminary had its library!
