My story of Ashland started last March when I came to a Future Eagles event on campus. I’d wanted to come to Ashland for a long time, but it wasn’t until that weekend when I met Dr. Chris Burkett that I was introduced to the Ashbrook Program. He took the time to explain what was involved, what was required and that I’d need to formally apply and set up an interview. A month later, I came back to campus for my interview. Dr. Burkett wasn’t able to sit in on my interview with me; instead, Dr. Jason Stevens was going to conduct it. I was so nervous and wasn’t sure if my ACT scores were going to be high enough to get in. But after discussing the Gettysburg Address and having a long conversation about my passion for history and philosophy, Dr. Stevens stopped me abruptly and told me that I was accepted, right then and there! It was a great moment, and I’ve loved being at Ashland for my freshman year.
