Megan Sherar (Brown)

Alumna

Class of 2007

I think it was just after the third time I changed my major at AU that I stepped back and finally asked myself, “What do you really want to be when you grow up?” My challenge as an undecided student was that I wanted to be and do everything. The liberal arts curriculum allowed me to explore so many different areas and interests, all while earning credits towards a degree. I remember calling my mom after my COM 101 class ended and insisting I would be a communications major. The next semester, when I took ART 133, I knew I was destined to be an artist. Economics, history, English, etc.–all sparked joy because of the incredible faculty I had. But it wasn’t just my experiences inside the classroom that helped transform me. The leadership opportunities AU provided and the guidance I received from the various staff members on campus helped bring everything together. When I finally reflected on my path, I realized–through my work in the Student Life Office, membership on Orientation Team, leadership in Greek Life, and the incredible faculty who taught me how to think–that my passion truly lies in education and helping students grow. Having the opportunity to give back to the AU community through providing support for Ashland University students is one of the most rewarding professions, and I’m so grateful to be a part of the student journey as they discover their life calling.
