When I was a child, it was very difficult for me to read. My parents would try to convince me to read anything–from menus to signs on the side of the road–but, for whatever reason, it never made sense to me. This continued until around 6th grade. One day, I went to the library with my family and I just picked up a book at random. And it clicked. I don’t know why, but it did–I could read it. It inspired me to read and eventually want to become a professor and writer. I still have that book. When I came to Ashland, I found out the writer of that book was one of my professor’s wives. He had her come to class one day and sign my copy of her book from all those years ago.
