At the late age of 50, an editor suggested I would profit from an MFA degree, sending me on a chase through various programs and ending up at Ashland University. I fought like mad to avoid telling my family struggles, but, by the end, I had found my way to clarity. Ashland University was the summer escape that led me to places I’d never been before, while living in the childhood home where I had encountered so many difficulties. The classes were small, the environment small-town like I grew up in, and it provided peace, lessons and a fantastic swimming pool. It took me a while to recover from the intense program, but I used all my lessons to create a work that may be future-changing–or, at a minimum, useful to my family and society.
