For me, it was many little things. I am from Los Angeles, California (born and raised). I graduated from Morningside High School in the rough and tough city of Inglewood. At Ashland, I remember standing right in the center of the Quad, confused by the loud sounds of locust in the trees that no one seemed to notice. I remember the feeling when that first flake of snow touched my face. I remember the amazement my sister and I shared when the snow became heavy as we sledded to class in the cold. And I remember the poetry… Ashland is where I found my love of poetry. I’ll never forget the astonishing ice sculptures. Ashland is my beautiful winter. Los Angeles is my home, where I am now raising my family. But Ashland, for me, is happiness, peace. Ashland is what I always thought life could be. Ashland, amazingly, has four seasons. I remember the first time I saw the true color of fall. Even now, if I’m having a stressful day, I can sit back, close my eyes, think about Ashland and feel relaxed.
