I received an invitation to visit AU from Coach Martinelli after he received film from my high school football coach. But, little did I know what impact that visit would have on my life. For the next four years I would participate in the football program as a player, student trainer and student coach. Except for a two-year military obligation, I have been coaching football in one capacity or another ever since. As I look back on that time, I more and more appreciate the mentorship I got from the football staff, which was in itself extra special. Coach Martinelli is in the Hall of Fame; Coach Blackledge, who would go on to the NFL; Coach Ford, who would become the head wrestling coach at Ohio State; and Coach Musselman, who would have quite a bit of success in the NBA. For me to get the opportunity to work with such a staff seems almost providential, and I am, humbly, so grateful. GO EAGLES!
