Winning the 4 x 4 relay finals at the track and field national championships as a freshman is definitely the highlight of my time at AU so far. That day, the track was so hot you couldn’t touch it with your bare hand. But, as the third leg on the relay team, even though we were out of the lead just before the last lap, as soon as I handed off the baton for the final time that season, I knew we were going to pull it off. When we won, at first it just felt like winning another race. It wasn’t until we got home and a few days passed that it finally clicked: I was a national champion!
