In the winter of my junior year, the wrestling team took a bus to compete against a few schools in Georgia and Alabama. Coming back, it started to snow. By the time we reached Columbus, we were in a complete whiteout. Little did we know that we were driving straight up into the blizzard of ’77. I was the oldest, so I got picked to drive. It was a VW bus with bald tires—a real white knuckle situation all the way home. An hour trip took over four, and by the time we got back to campus, everything was closed. Security had to come and put us up in a fraternity house for the night. It was harrowing! But it was also a real bonding experience for the team.
