One of my best memories of Ashland happened in 2013. The previous season, the girls’ basketball team had gone to the national finals, and it looked like they were going to be really good again the following season. So I made the suggestion that we cover the tournament the next year if Ashland made it past regionals. I hadn’t planned on organizing the whole thing, but because I made the suggestion, I was tasked with pulling it all together. The 2013 tournament was in San Antonio, so I rented a van, took five students, and we drove 22 straight hours to San Antonio. I had decided that we would stay until the girls lost, but they continued to win, all the way to being national champions, so we were there for a full week. I loved the experience. What made it so special was getting to know the students on the trip there and back. And I’m really proud to say that all of them caught the bug that week and are currently working in broadcasting!
