My story is about another school, one that became very important to a small group of people on the Ashland campus. When I attended Ashland, there was a little red schoolhouse about two miles from the campus. It was a marker for my first race as an Ashland athlete. It was the first day of practice—two miles out, two miles back. A grueling run, but, when I finished, I felt more like a part of college life. I was a college athlete. I’ve often wondered how many people over the years have done this task, as the Ashland track and field program remains an extremely competitive force in Division II athletics, some forty years later. It’s just great to have been a part of the Eagle lore. Thank you, Ashland.
