It’s hard to choose just one moment where Ashland shaped my life because I’m still experiencing those moments even seven years after beginning my journey there.

My major was social work with a minor in criminal justice. I chose AU for the simple fact that they were the only school with an accredited social work program within a five-hour radius from my hometown. Although the program still influences my professional life, my most valuable experience at AU came from working at the Rec Center.

Within weeks of starting my first semester, I was extremely homesick and ready to transfer home. Once I was hired at the Rec Center, though, it instantly became my home away from home. I met so many great friends and mentors who are still involved in my life today. I had no idea how working at The Rec gave me purpose, and grow as a person. I learned so many skills that still apply to my personal and professional life.

AU, without a doubt, was the best thing to happen to me. Plus, it led me to my husband!
