My whole time at Ashland was very transformational, but one story sums up my whole undergrad experience. I was fortunate enough to be part of the Eagle Investment Group in its first couple years. At the time, I was looking to drop my business major and choose something else. But once I had Dr. Harvey as a professor and was part of the groundbreaking for the Dauch College of Business, it became clear that sticking with a business major was what I was supposed to do. I wasn’t a memorable student by any stretch of the imagination, but Dr. Harvey took a real interest in me. In fact, I was at a dance recital for my daughter a few months back. I looked over and noticed Dr. Harvey in the crowd. I came to find out that he had a granddaughter on stage. During intermission, I approached him and said, “I know you won’t remember me, but you had me in class decades ago and I just wanted to say ‘hi’.” He looked at me and didn’t miss a beat: “You’re Keith Gibson and you work for Northwestern Mutual.” I was blown away. What’s funny is that when I invited him to sit with my family, he looked over at his wife and said, “See that? Eagles always stick together!”
