Arriving at Ashland from the island of Crete, Greece, I had to deal with a number of changes.
For one, the weather. On Crete, we have over 300 days of sunshine annually, similar to southern California’s climate. Secondly, the culture: every society has its own point of view and approach. Also, being thousands of miles away from home creates a feeling of nostalgia.
In life there are no difficult situations, there are only challenges through which you become a better person. Studying for my MBA, I was able to gain a better understanding of the business world and build up confidence in my ability to communicate with higher level executives. I acquired essential skills like leadership, interpersonal communication, global orientation and strategic thinking. The size of the campus creates a sense of community, and the small class sizes allow you to be a name, not a number. Having state of the art facilities like the Dauch College of Business and Economics also adds value to the quality of education.
The faculty and staff fulfill our motto “Accent on the Individual” by adjusting to each student, showing genuine care and acting as mentors. This community made my transition smooth and established AU as my home away from home. Go Eagles!
