I will forever give thanks to Ashland—sorry, I will always call it ‘College’!—University for providing me with the tools to pursue a 40-year career in a field I love. Because of the tremendous faculty in the (then) Radio/Television Department, I have been a professional broadcaster since 1977. I was given more than enough time to practice my craft after learning the basics, laying the groundwork for being in what I call a “paid hobby” for decades. My experience allowed me to meet many other students in the department, with whom I still network even after all these years. Additionally, my time in the theater program allowed me to build on my major, giving me increased self-confidence, which has dramatically helped me in my chosen profession. Having recently returned to Ashland for my 40th Homecoming, I was very proud of the great strides made in both the communications and theater programs. My time in Ashland absolutely shaped not just my career, but my whole life, since 1974.
