I am a native of Minnesota and I remember that, while at Ashland, I was the only student from the state of 10,000 lakes. Currently, I live in Moorhead, Minnesota (about four hours northwest of Minneapolis, where I grew up). Recently, I was in the grocery store and I saw a young man wearing an Ashland Basketball shirt. At first, I thought I was wrong, An AU basketball shirt in northwest Minnesota? Couldn’t be. I approached him while he was in line to check out and found out he had graduated from Ashland the previous year and had played on the AU basketball team. His wife was taking classes at Concordia College (one of the three four -year colleges in the area) and that is how he ended up in Moorhead. I mentioned to him that I also was an AU alumnus and graduated in 1996, I was not ready for his response to this. He said, “That was the year I was born”. It was fun to connect with a fellow AU alum, but, wow, did his comment make me feel old!
