Accent Stories

Alumna, Faculty

Class of 2011

After obtaining my Bachelor of Science in Information Technology and traveling the globe for work, I decided to pursue my higher studies in the states. After evaluating many MBA programs, I decided to enroll at AU due to the unique classroom structure and their commitment to the “Accent on the Individual.” Once accepted, I traveled all the way from tropical Sri Lanka. As soon as I set foot at AU, I fell in love with the campus and its environment. Everyone at AU and in the community was very friendly and welcoming, making it easy to be so far away from home. As a student at AU, I felt that the faculty and staff were always there to guide and mold the students. This experience helped me realized that, in addition to my dream of becoming an entrepreneur, one day I too wanted to become a faculty member at AU and help students achieve their dreams and goals. I graduated from the AU MBA program top of my batch with a 4.0 GPA and then went on to pursue a career in digital marketing, where I had the opportunity to lead multiple medium-sized organizations to success. Then, with my entrepreneurial mindset, I decided to apply the same success to a company of my own and inaugurated a digital marketing company. At the same time, I decided to apply to be an adjunct professor at Ashland University and was fortunate to join AU. While functioning as an adjunct faculty member, I identified the need for a Digital Marketing Specialization for the AU MBA program and took the initiative to build the curriculum. When I submitted the idea to the board, they approved it. I believe the AU MBA program helped me realize my goal of becoming an entrepreneur by laying the foundation I needed to understand the rules and regulations of conducting business in the states, as well as understanding the business culture. It also helped me realize my dream of becoming a faculty member who can help mold students and give them the necessary tools to achieve a bright future.
